Birds and Bugs Kit

$100.00

Grower’s Choice Birds and Bugs Kit

Birdfeeders are great for attracting and supporting non-migratory birds in winter but contrary to common assumptions many birds don’t have seed-based diets. Avian species have diet diversity in their ranks, with herbivores, carnivores, insectivores, and omnivores or those who indulge in delicacies like insects, leaf buds and even flower nectar. Support this diversity by planting living bird feeders! This kit features a mix of plants that make food specifically for birds but also includes insect host plants that make food for the insects that birds eat. The fundamentals of ecology are centered on the distribution of energy and this starts with plants that harness the sun’s energy and turn it into food that other organisms can use. Plants eat light, insects eat plants, birds eat bugs, these are the building blocks to the web of life. Invite hummingbirds, finches, nuthatches, and chickadees to the buffet of life with this kit.

This kit requires Full to Part Sun conditions with Medium to Wet moisture conditions.

Recommended for 30 - 50 sq. ft.

Grower's Choice Garden Kits include:

32x 2.5" POWER PLUGS

With 4-8x different species depending on your kit selection.

All kits come with  30-50%  graminoids (grasses, sedges or rushes). Why? It’s not just filler. Graminoids serve many functions including creating habitat and food for wildlife, building healthy soil structures, holding up top heavy forbs and acting as negative space for the human eye to rest in garden designs.

PRICE: $100 — A SAVINGS of $12 or 3x FREE plants.

More Info About Grower’s Choice Kits:

If you are new to native plants, overwhelmed by choice or looking to achieve a specific goal with your landscaping, our Grower's Choice Kits are a great option! We have a kit for many nearly any native landscaping scenario.

There's only one hitch…we pick the plants. Just like chef's choice in a restaurant you ask the expert to curate the best selection for you. The plants in your kit will be based on current inventory, prioritizing a multi-season bloom range with a variety of leaf textures and complementary flower colors.

Worried about design layout? Don’t be! We’ll label the plants in three categories: Matrix, Seasonal Interest and Structural. Start by arranging the structural plants 36-48” apart and then fill in the gaps with the matrix and the seasonal interest selections planting them 12-18” on center. If you need more advice or information, bring pictures of your site when you come to pick up the plants or email us and we’d be happy to offer layout recommendations.

We also offer custom design services for hire—inquire via Email: preston@northernholler.com

You can stack different Grower's Choice Kits for maximum savings and LOTS OF FUN!
